Taxonomy & naming
Schistura pseudofasciolata was described by Zhou and Cui in 1993, placed from the outset in Schistura, the large genus of Eurasian stone loaches within the family Nemacheilidae. Nemacheilidae is itself a much-reshuffled group — many species once lumped under Nemacheilus or Noemacheilus have since been redistributed among Schistura, Triplophysa, Barbatula and other genera as the family has been revised — but this species has not moved from Schistura since its description.
The specific epithet pseudofasciolata references a resemblance to another banded or striped Schistura (fasciolata meaning "small-banded"), the pseudo- prefix marking it as a look-alike rather than a synonym. As with most narrow-endemic stone loaches, detailed taxonomic literature on this species beyond the original description is sparse; the Catalog of Fishes remains the authority for the current valid combination.
Morphology
As a member of Nemacheilidae, Schistura pseudofasciolata shares the family's general build: a small, elongate, cylindrical body suited to holding position on the bottom of fast-flowing water, a flattened head, and a subterminal mouth ringed with barbels for probing between stones. Like other Schistura it should carry the small, erectile suborbital spine typical of the wider Cobitoidea group, tucked in a groove beneath the eye, along with the near-scaleless or fine-scaled skin common to loaches — a detail that matters for medication sensitivity even though it has not been separately documented for this species.

Stone loaches in this genus typically live in cool-to-cool-temperate, clear, fast-flowing hill and mountain streams with rocky or gravel substrates and strong oxygenation, and there is no indication this species departs from that pattern.
