Taxonomy & naming
Aborichthys tikaderi was described by Barman in 1985 and placed in the genus Aborichthys, a small group of elongate stone loaches restricted to streams of northeastern India and neighbouring Myanmar. The genus sits within Nemacheilidae, the stone and brook loaches — the largest of the loach families and one that has been extensively reshuffled by taxonomists over the past few decades as old catch-all genera like Nemacheilus and Noemacheilus were split into narrower, better-defined groups such as Schistura, Triplophysa, Barbatula and Aborichthys itself.
Available references flag that the validity of Aborichthys tikaderi as a distinct species is not entirely settled, since it closely resembles other Aborichthys species described from the same region. This kind of uncertainty is common in a genus described from a handful of small, hard-to-access Himalayan foothill streams, and it is one more reason to treat what is known about this fish as provisional rather than definitive.
Morphology
Like other members of its genus, Aborichthys tikaderi is a slender, elongate loach adapted to life on the bed of fast-flowing streams. FishBase records a maximum standard length of about 4 in, making it a modestly sized member of the stone loach group. As a nemacheilid it lacks the true scales of many other fish groups over much of its body and, where present, an erectile suborbital spine of the kind found across the wider loach lineage is typically small and easily overlooked compared to the prominent spine of botiid loaches.

Habitat

Namdapha is a steep, forested landscape of fast, clear, well-oxygenated hill streams running off the eastern Himalaya and its foothills — exactly the kind of cool, swift water that stone and brook loaches in general are built for.
As a nemacheilid restricted to this kind of habitat, Aborichthys tikaderi should be assumed to need clean, current-swept, highly oxygenated water rather than the warm, still conditions suited to many lowland tropical fish. No aquarium water-chemistry data specific to this species is available, but a related congener, Aborichthys elongatus, is documented as needing spotless water, high dissolved oxygen and good water movement, and is intolerant of any build-up of organic waste — a reasonable proxy for the genus as a whole.
Feeding
Detailed dietary data for Aborichthys tikaderi itself is not available in the sources consulted. Stone and brook loaches as a group are bottom-dwelling micro-predators, picking small aquatic invertebrates — insect larvae, worms and tiny crustaceans — off gravel and stones in fast water, and this fish should be assumed to feed the same way in the wild.

Given how little is documented about this fish even in the wild, and that it has no presence in the hobby, the honest summary is that it is essentially unknown in captivity and there is no reason to expect that to change soon.

Aborichthys tikaderi is not established in the aquarium trade, and no husbandry record specific to it could be found. Anyone who did encounter it — most plausibly as a misidentified congener — should treat it as a cool-to-moderate, fast-flowing-stream specialist: strong water movement, high dissolved oxygen, spotless water with no organic build-up, and a mature substrate of stone and gravel rather than a static, decorative setup, following the pattern documented for the related Aborichthys elongatus.
As with most nemacheilid loaches it likely lacks true scales over much of the body, which across the wider loach group typically brings sensitivity to copper and to full-strength medications; any fish tentatively identified as this species should be treated cautiously and gently rather than with standard full doses. Given the taxonomic uncertainty around the species and its total absence from captive collections, keeping it is not currently a realistic prospect for hobbyists.
Conservation
The IUCN Red List assessed Aborichthys tikaderi in 2009 and listed it as Vulnerable, applying criterion D2 — a category used for species with a very restricted area of occupancy or very few locations, which fits a fish known only from streams inside a single protected area. It is treated as endemic to Arunachal Pradesh, India, with its entire known range apparently confined to Namdapha Wildlife Sanctuary.
A 2021 conservation-status review of type species from Arunachal Pradesh confirmed the fish's endemicity and Vulnerable status while noting that detailed population data remain sparse. Threats identified for the species and its habitat include deforestation and dam construction, both of which can alter the flow, temperature and clarity of the fast hill streams this kind of loach depends on. There is no evidence that the aquarium trade plays any role in its conservation picture — its threats are habitat-driven, tied to a single small protected watershed.
