Corumbataia veadeiros was described by Carvalho in 2008. It is placed in the family Loricariidae, subfamily Hypoptopomatinae — the group of small, often diminutive suckermouth catfishes sometimes called dwarf otocinclus relatives. The genus Corumbataia takes its name from the Brazilian locality Corumbataí do Sul, the area associated with the genus.
