Taxonomy & naming
Chiloglanis fasciatus was described by the French ichthyologist Jacques Pellegrin in 1936. It belongs to the family Mochokidae — the African squeakers and upside-down catfishes — and to Chiloglanis, a genus of roughly 50 described small, rock-dwelling suckermouth species spread across sub-Saharan Africa. The genus has not been swept into an older combination for this species; Chiloglanis fasciatus is the name used consistently across the available sources.
The genus name Chiloglanis is built from Greek roots referring to the lip and to a catfish, a nod to the fleshy, sucker-like oral disc that defines the genus. The species epithet fasciatus is Latin for "banded" or "striped", presumably describing a banded pattern on the body or fins, though the cached sources do not detail the specific marking. As with many small riverine Chiloglanis, field identification within the genus is difficult and often rests on subtle differences in the sucker disc and fin-spine counts rather than obvious external colour.
Morphology

Feeding
Chiloglanis fasciatus is a nocturnal benthic omnivore in the pattern typical of the genus: it grazes algae and biofilm off rock surfaces using its sucker mouth and picks off small invertebrates such as fly larvae and other insect larvae from the same rocky riffles, foraging mostly after dark.

Chiloglanis fasciatus is a small species — its recorded maximum is only about 2.5 in — so unlike many catfish it does not carry the classic size trap; a modestly sized aquarium can suit it for life. What it does demand is strong, oxygen-rich current, delivered with a powerhead or similar flow, echoing the rocky riffles and rapids it comes from; without that flow it will not thrive. Provide a rock-and-rubble aquascape with surfaces for it to graze and cling to.
As with all catfish it is scaleless, so dose copper and other medications conservatively — the naked skin is more sensitive than a scaled fish's.
