As a grazing omnivore it will pick at soft-leaved plants, so aquascapes should lean on hardier species such as Anubias or Microsorum, or accept some grazing damage as normal behaviour. Little is documented about its temperament in company, but general headstander husbandry favours a calm, well-oxygenated tank with peaceful tankmates and stable water chemistry; because it is not established in the trade as a captive-bred fish, keepers should be mindful that acquiring this species likely means supporting wild collection from its native blackwater rivers.
