Taxonomy & naming
Seminemacheilus ispartensis was described in 2007 by Turkish ichthyologists Fevzi Erk'Akan, Tevfik Nalbant and Semra Özeren. It belongs to the family Nemacheilidae, the stone or brook loaches — the largest family in the loach superfamily Cobitoidea, and one that has been repeatedly reshuffled as older catch-all genera like Nemacheilus and Noemacheilus were split apart on anatomical and molecular grounds. Seminemacheilus is one of the smaller genera born of that splitting, restricted to Anatolia and neighbouring parts of western Asia, and the Catalog of Fishes recognizes S. ispartensis as a valid, distinct species within it.
The species epithet ispartensis refers to its type locality, Isparta Creek near the Eğirdir–Isparta road in Isparta Province, Turkey — the town and province that give the fish its scientific name. No taxonomic synonyms or reclassifications are recorded for this species since its description; it has always stood as Seminemacheilus ispartensis.
Morphology
Like other members of Nemacheilidae, S. ispartensis has the classic stone-loach build: an elongated, cylindrical body, a small ventrally-set mouth suited to picking food off the substrate, and small barbels around the mouth for detecting food by touch. It is a small species even by loach standards, with adult females reaching about 3.5 in standard length and males topping out smaller, around 2 in SL.

It lives in the flowing streams that feed the lake basin rather than in the lake itself, consistent with the stone-loach habit of clear, well-oxygenated running water over rocky or stony substrate.
