The genus Lebiasina belongs to the family Lebiasinidae, the pencilfish-and-splashing-tetra lineage within the order Characiformes. Breeding

The species is peaceful and best kept in groups with similarly sized, non-aggressive tankmates. Other small lebiasinids, dwarf pencilfish, small South American tetras, and small Corydoras make suitable companions. At the modest size typical of the genus it should not be housed with significantly larger or predatory fish. Water quality and stability are the primary care concerns — regular partial water changes with well-conditioned, soft water are essential. Feeding poses no special difficulty for an owner experienced with similar soft-water tetras and pencilfish.

Conservation
