Tetras · names

Every name, resolved

Tetras are known by a current scientific binomial, very often by an evocative common name — “cardinal tetra”, “black phantom”, “serpae”, “Congo tetra” — and sometimes by an older binomial from a recent genus change. This index cross-references all three layers across the whole atlas — 1,450 scientific names, 824 common names and 90 synonyms — and resolves each one to its species.

Scientific name — the current valid binomial used on the species page. Common name — English vernacular and trade names. Synonym — an older or alternate binomial (for example the recently resurrected FishBase genus), so a fish is found by whichever name you know. Species still being written resolve their name without a link.
