Triplophysa gundriseri is a small stone loach described by Prokofiev in 2002 from the Uvs-Nuur Lake basin, the closed inland drainage straddling the Mongolia–Tuva (Russia) border. It belongs to Nemacheilidae, the largest loach family, whose members are the unassuming, near-scaleless bottom-dwellers of cold, clear, fast-flowing Eurasian streams rather than the showier botiids of the aquarium trade. Like other Triplophysa it is a genuine high-altitude, cold-water specialist, and — like most of its genus — it is essentially unknown outside the ichthyological literature: no common name, no aquarium history, and only a handful of published records. Taxonomy & naming

Triplophysa gundriseri was described by Alexander M. Prokofiev in 2002 in a paper on the stone loaches of the Uvs-Nuur basin, the large endorheic (closed-drainage) depression shared by northwestern Mongolia and the Tuva Republic of Russia. It is listed as a valid species (TSN 688232) in the Integrated Taxonomic Information System, which places it in the family Balitoridae/Nemacheilidae — the river-loach group that has been repeatedly reshuffled as the old catch-all genera Nemacheilus and Noemacheilus were split apart over recent decades.
