Taxonomy & naming
Triplophysa rossoperegrinatorum was described by the Russian ichthyologist Alexander Prokofiev in 2001, one of four new Triplophysa species he named in the same paper. It sits within the T. stoliczkai complex, a cluster of closely related nemacheilid loaches from the drainages of Central Asia and inland China whose members are notoriously difficult to tell apart and whose taxonomy has been revised repeatedly.
The Catalog of Fishes (Eschmeyer, CAS) — the authority followed here — lists T. rossoperegrinatorum as a possible synonym of Triplophysa hexiensis (Zhao & Wang, 1988), with both attributed to the Ruoshui River and Shiyang River drainages of northern China. That uncertainty is left standing rather than resolved here: we keep the name Prokofiev gave it, note the synonymy question openly, and do not guess at a settled answer the literature itself has not settled. This kind of unresolved status is common across Triplophysa, the largest genus in the family Nemacheilidae, where new stream-endemic populations are still being described and older names are still being folded into or split from one another.
Morphology

This is a cold-water fish, not a warm tropical one — a point that matters for anyone attempting to keep or research it. The type locality's aquatic systems are also under real hydrological pressure, as much of the Shiyang River basin lies in a heavily used, water-scarce agricultural region of Gansu province, which bears on the conservation picture even where a formal assessment is absent.
Feeding
As a member of the stone and brook loach group, T. rossoperegrinatorum is best understood as a benthic micro-predator: it forages along the streambed for small invertebrates, insect larvae and crustaceans, picking prey from among gravel and stones in current. This matches the broader pattern for Triplophysa and for its congener T. shiyangensis, whose recorded trophic level (about 3.1) places it as a low-level carnivore rather than an omnivore or grazer.
