Taxonomy & naming
Rhadinoloricaria listrorhinos was described by Nijssen and Isbrücker in 1988 and is accepted as valid by the Catalog of Fishes (Eschmeyer, CAS). The parenthetical authority — (Nijssen & Isbrücker, 1988) — signals an original placement in a different genus, with subsequent recombination into Rhadinoloricaria, a genus of slim-bodied whiptails in the subfamily Loricariinae of the suckermouth-armoured catfish family Loricariidae.
The species has accrued very little published literature beyond the original description and standard checklists; the principal modern reference is Ferraris (2003), the Checklist of the Freshwater Fishes of South and Central America.
Morphology
Rhadinoloricaria listrorhinos reaches a maximum recorded length of 5.5 in standard length (FishBase, based on a male or unsexed specimen). It shows the elongate, dorsoventrally flattened body and tapering caudal peduncle typical of the Loricariinae, the body armoured in rows of bony plates and the mouth modified into a ventral sucker.
Detailed diagnostic characters reside in the original 1988 description and are not reproduced in the readily available secondary sources; live coloration and sexual dimorphism are not documented here.
Habitat
The species is a freshwater, demersal, tropical fish of the Orinoco drainage, recorded from the Metica River basin — part of the Meta River system in Colombia, within the Orinoco Llanos ecoregion. As a benthic loricariine it would be expected on sandy or detritus-laden substrates in flowing water, but no specific microhabitat, current, depth or water-chemistry data have been published for R. listrorhinos.
Feeding
No direct feeding study exists for Rhadinoloricaria listrorhinos. FishBase gives a model-based trophic level estimate of 2.5, in line with the detritivore and biofilm-grazer habits general to whiptail loricariines. This is an inference from the genus and subfamily rather than an observation of this species; dietary data are sparse.
