Bryconamericus lassorum was described by Carlos Román-Valencia in 2002. Eschmeyer's Catalog of Fishes (Catalog of Fishes, CAS) treats Bryconamericus lassorum Román-Valencia, 2002 as the valid name; the genus Bryconamericus belongs to the family Characidae in the order Characiformes, the characins.
The genus Bryconamericus is a large and taxonomically complex assemblage of small characids distributed across rivers and streams throughout tropical and subtropical South America. Venezuelan species have been revised by Román-Valencia and colleagues, who provided diagnostic keys based on meristic and morphometric characters.
