Taxonomy & naming

David in 1936 in the journal Senckenbergiana (volume 18, numbers 1/2, pages 72–74), based on specimens collected during the Schomburgk Africa Expedition of 1931–32. The original combination was Barbus haasianus David, 1936, and GBIF and WoRMS (WoRMS ID: 488289) both list Barbus haasianus as the basionym, with the parenthetical authority in the current name marking the transfer to Enteromius.

The genus Enteromius is a large, predominantly African radiation of small barbs separated from the formerly catch-all Barbus as part of ongoing phylogenetic revisions to the Cyprinidae. Many African species originally placed in Barbus now sit in Enteromius, and the assignment of E. haasianus to this genus follows modern taxonomic usage. The Catalog of Fishes (Eschmeyer, CAS) is the authority for valid names, and the current accepted combination is Enteromius haasianus (David, 1936).

Morphology
