Neolissochilus longipinnis is a large Indonesian mahseer — a member of the barb family (Cyprinidae) belonging to the genus Neolissochilus, one of three genera that share the mahseer common name alongside Tor and Naziritor. Endemic to Sumatra, it is known primarily from Lake Kawar and possibly once occurred in the Pangus River drainage on the slopes of Mount Ungaran in Java, though that Javanese population is thought to be extirpated. Hobbyists interested in the mahseer group are better served by smaller, better-documented species; N. longipinnis is relevant to the aquarium world primarily as a conservation case study rather than a candidate for captive keeping.
