The genus Knodus belongs to the large, heterogeneous family Characidae, the largest family of freshwater fishes in the Neotropics.
Knodus is a genus of small, slender characids that has been revised several times; molecular and morphological work has repeatedly shifted species boundaries and refined the genus's composition.
