Enteromius condei was described in 1982 by Volker Mahnert and Jacques Géry, the parenthetical authority in the current valid combination indicating that the species was originally placed in a different genus. African barbs of this group have historically passed through the broad catch-all genera Barbus and Puntius before the widespread adoption of Enteromius for the majority of sub-Saharan African small-barb lineages.
The Catalog of Fishes (Eschmeyer, CAS) is the governing authority for valid names; the current placement is Enteromius condei (Mahnert & Géry, 1982). Enteromius is a large, species-rich genus distributed across sub-Saharan Africa, and many of its members are morphologically similar, making species-level identification in the field difficult without close examination of meristic and morphological characters.
Morphology
As a member of Enteromius, E. condei is expected to be a small, slender to moderately deep-bodied cyprinid with the typical barb body plan: a single dorsal fin, no adipose fin, and either one or two pairs of barbels around the mouth (barbel count varies by species within the genus). Published morphological data for this species specifically are sparse.
African Enteromius in the West African drainages tend to be small fishes, generally under 4 in total length, with silver to golden lateral flanks sometimes marked with spots, blotches or a dark lateral stripe. Enteromius condei scatters small, adhesive eggs among fine-leaved plants, root tangles or over gravel and sand. The eggs receive no parental care and hatch within one to two days under warm conditions; larvae become free-swimming within a few further days as the yolk sac is absorbed.

A well-planted tank with soft to moderately hard, warm water, good filtration and a varied diet of small live and prepared foods would suit them. It is effectively a data-sparse species: published ecological, distributional, and population information is limited, making any conservation status determination difficult.
